Things My Grandmother Taught Me

Image
Things I've learned from Grandmother who taught her mother.   Your words help me today. Worry is a waste of time and energy. When you  feel like worrying, quote  your favorite Bible verse and then work.  The  Word of God  keeps your mind  focused on  what really counts, and work will keep  your hands busy. When  things get too heavy for  you, give them to Jesus, for his strength  is  perfect. When you think you  cannot handle another piece of bad news,  turn to the Good News of the Gospel. God knows what you can bear and will give no more  than  that. Laugh and buck up.  A merry  heart doeth good like a medicine. Proverbs 17:2   Our pastor said that when  we have have worry or fear, we are breaking the first commandment, because we aren't trusting God and putting Him first.  I  think that's what my Grandmother and Mom were trying to ...

The 2016 Presidential Election

Image
The 2016 Presidential election has  quite a few Christians in a quandary. Both sides have their problems, and neither side seem like quality candidates.  For the first time, I find myself wondering not can I vote, but should I vote. Then someone made me see that throughout history, we have had very few true "Christian" leaders.  It has always been the case of choosing between the lesser of two evils.  Each one of us has to decide what values  do  we hold  most dear and which candidate upholds closer to those values. Why are we so flummoxed? That troubled me.  Have we forgotten  that it is God, Himself, who sets  authority over us in the first place?  Have we  become so enamored  with our gadgets and  toys that w...

Overheard on the playground this morning: Little Girl:  When I grow up, I'm going to be a princess.  Little Boy, You can't be a princess cuz you have know a king. The little girl thought for a minute and said, "Well, I can too. My Daddy calls me a princess, so I am one already.  Then she went happily off to the playground. I thought about that as I returned to the library to check in books and prepare for today's students. I thought how our heavenly Father loves us so much that He sent Jesus, King Jesus, to die for us and make a way for us to enter heaven.  He is king, and therefore we who love him are princes and princesses,  That thought changed my outlook on the rest of the day.

Been thinking about a few things I've learned along my life's journey: I learned to trust in Jesus not in times of gentle rain, but  in  walking  through the fire  with Him.    Running ahead of  Jesus never works, it is only in walking by His side that I found the things I truly wanted. Time spent with the Word of God feeds  and waters the soul. Accepting the will of God brings peace, but asking for the will of God has taken courage.
