Scaredy Cat
This Jack, my Turkish Van. We got him at a no kill shelter. He has many unique traits. He hops rather than runs, though he can run, he prefers hopping. He wants to be chased. He give a certain meow that means, "Okay, guys, just don't sit there, let's' play. I run, you chase me." It took us a while to figure this out. He growls and "barks" like a dog. He does this late at night. He hops through the house and growl and give what I call his bark. This can last a good twenty minutes. He has unusual fur. Turkish Vans do not have an undercoat, so their fun is very luxurious and repels water and dirt. They love water. Jack will run to the water when the faucet runs with water. We can give him a bath and he sit in the water and we can clean him. He loves everyone in the house. He does not belong to any one of us, but all of us get his attention. In the evening when we watch a movie, he come to each of us in our chairs and spend some time with us before he curls up on the back of the sofa.
He has one flaw that has become quite annoying. He is a "scaredy cat". Literally, he's afraid of his own shadow! Whenever we have company come to spend time with us, we do not see Jack. He hides under our bed. We don't see him for the first two days of our guest's arrival. When he does make an appearance, he creeps into the room, looking to the right and to the left, he will pause and wait before he dares move another step. If you happen to make even the slightest noise like sneeze, he hops up and makes a beeline to bedroom under the bed. About the time our company spends the last day with us, Jack makes a bold entrance into the room.
He will never make a mouser;we think the sight of one might scare the daylights out of him! But he does get along with our three other cats, and his personality is so very unique that we can put up with his timid behavior. He's a great cat.
If you are looking for a fun, unique pet, check out a Turkish Van. They are wonderful fun. Whether you want a cat or a dog, try looking at the no-kill shelters. There are so many wonderful animals there waiting for someone to love them. I am thankful God made the animals for us to enjoy!
