Dreaming

Do you dream of doing something?  Perhaps you dream of going someplace special?  I suppose we all have had moments when we were young that we said, "I dream of _____".  Have your dreams come true?  Some of mine have, well, perhaps most of mine have come true. I always dreamed of having a good marriage, a happy home, and lots of children.  Those are dreams that came true, but then I have had other dreams that drifted away and became a faded memory. Where I sometimes went wrong with my dreams was not going to the Lord and seeking his will concerning my hopes, aspirations, and dreams.  Then too, at other times, I just quit.  I gave up before I began, and never gave the Lord opportunity to work in my life.  Life is filled with quandaries. One of the quandaries for me concerns encouraging others to pursue their dreams in a world that is filled with obstacles that can hurt.  How do we point out the difficulties in the road ahead, and not discou...

Beautiful Lord's Day

Our family had a wonderful day today.  In Sunday school we studied 1 Corinthians 10: 16-26 in the light of close communion.  In church the sermon was about what we have in Christ, and how to walk in the Spirit.  This helped me personally a great deal, since I have a desire to walk in the Spirit, but how to fulfill that desire, I don't always know.  After church we went with another family out to eat lunch, and we had a wonderful time of fellowship. Christian fellowship plays an important part in the lives of believers.  We learn from one another and we can grow in grace in our walk with the Lord.  We shared the burdens of our hearts; we shared how each of us dealt with these burdens; and we laughed!  Proverbs says, "A merry heart doeth good like a medicine," and how true the word of God is.  We all left feeling nourished in mind, body, and spirit.  "Behold how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity." Psalm 133...

People Watching

I had a doctor's appointment today, and that meant sitting in the doctor's office for an hour. The office always reminds me to show up fifteen minutes early or I will have to reschedule. Of course I show up 20 minutes early, because I don't want to reschedule, and then I waited an hour to be called, and then sat in the doctor's exam room for another twenty minutes.  Argh!  Do you sense my frustration? I forgot my book and the only magazines on all  of the 7 tables they have in the waiting room,s contained advertisements from drug companies. So, I watched people.  People are not only funny, as Art Linkletter once said, but they are interesting to watch.  One man, waiting with wife, talked on his cell phone. He sat across the room, but his voice filled the room.  His wife said something to him; he said something to her, none of which I heard, but then the man gets back on the phone, and spoke loud enough for people to hear in the exam room, "My wi...

Amy's Primer

When Joseph, our youngest son, was around four or five, we purchased a floppy disk for our old IBM computer called Amy's Primer.  This disk taught shapes, numbers, and letters for preschool children.  This program  had one flaw, however, once Amy's Primer ran on the computer, for some reason, we had to run it before we could run other programs.  Minor flaw, really ,because Joseph learned a lot from Amy's Primer.  Sunday, I had the joy of visiting with my niece, Amy.  She shared with us a trial she is going through.  Her trial is difficult, but as she shared, I realized that she is a remarkable young woman. She could easily give in and give up, but she has not. Determined to overcome she presses forward, and she does it all with a smile and a laugh.  Now, don't laugh, and I hope my dear Amy will take this in the way I mean it, but while she shared  with us  about her trial, I thought, "I have my own Amy's Primer."  Amy ta...

Spring Cleaning

It is summer, but I have been "spring cleaning".  We've added new drywall to two of our walls in the living room, painted, dusted, and washed floors.  I spent some time going through a box of my mother's cards and letters.  She passed away several years ago, but only now have I been able to look through those things.  And as you can see, I have spruced up the blog a bit.  I'm not sure I like it, and you have to scroll down to see the list of followers, most popular postings for the month, and how to follow via email. I'm not sure if anyone will take the time to do that, so I tried to change it back to the old style, but alas, this cannot be done. My husband and daughter spent an hour trying to get it back for me.  When a person spring cleans things change, and at first we may not like what we see.  It takes time to adapt. Maybe I shall adapt to the new style of blog, or perhaps I shall change it again...this is a woman's prerogative, right?  C...

Independence Day

Tomorrow America celebrates the 4th of July, Independence Day, and a holiday that some, mostly on the left, would rather forget.  Some of these people have said that only Republicans celebrate the 4th of July.  I doubt that as truth for all democrats, but the this once unheard of sentiment spreads like yeast in dough.  I am afraid that the country my brothers, sister, and I knew as children is vanishing, and we wonder if there will a free democracy left for our grandchildren. Independence Day is uniquely American. John Adams, one of our Founding Fathers, knew the significance in the signing of the Declaration of Independence when he wrote to his wife Abigail, he said that the day should be "...commemorated as the Day of Deliverance by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty.  It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires , and illuminations  from one end of this continent to he other from t...
