Telephone in the Toilet
Yep, that's the right title for this. Tuesday, I took a break before I gathered the kindergarten books to check them into the library, and went into the teacher's restroom. Thankfully no other teacher was there. I had my cell phone in my sweater pocket, and as I went to...well, you get the idea, the phone fell out of my pocket. I heard a plop, and clink. Humm, I wondered, that's not a good sound. I looked, and before I could think, I reached in and pulled that phone out. I hopped over to the paper towels and began madly to wipe it off. Thankfully the water looked clean. I then uttered an expletive, and I am ashamed of that, and quickly asked Jesus to forgive me, and then just as quickly the Lord brought our Monday night Bible study to my mind, the trials of Job. Now this little trial of mine, was nothing compared with Job's, but it comforted me. What would we do without the word!
John had just gotten this phone, and the rebate money hasn't even been received yet. I needed this phone to work with my Soundgate hearing device that connects the cell phone directly into my hearing aids, and there is was wet. I couldn't get the back off, so I ran to Sally, our dear school secretary who handles every crisis with calmness, a perfect requirement for a school secretary. After she got the back off she told me to take it apart and put in the window so the sun could dry it out. Let it dry well, and she was certain it would work. Pastor Westendorf told me to put in rice. The rice pulls the moisture out of the cell phone, and it would work.
John came over and got the phone, and he let it dry out more in the sun, and then put in rice. This afternoon, he put the battery back in, and we prayed, and turned the phone on and it worked!
I learned a lot of lessons with this cell phone incident. Even a little crisis can seem large when you are in the middle of it, but God cares about every aspect of our lives. It's always important to surround yourself with believers, because they put things in perspective. Everyone at the school knows that with this cell phone, I could hear people speak so much better, and they encouraged me that God knew that better than anyone else. I learned not make judgements of others. My daughter lost her cell phone, and I thought to myself, "How can you lose a phone?" Pretty Easily! I apologized to her.
Every aspect of our lives is important to our Heavenly Father. Yesterday, He used a cell phone in the toilet to show me again, of His great love for me, a sinner.
