What are You Afraid Of?


            What are you afraid of?  Someone asked that question the other day.  As a Christian I am suppose to say, I have no fear because I know Christ is with me. I also suppose that the answer  to that question might change as we move through the various stages of our lives.  A little boy might be afraid  to  try going down the slide for the first time, but then finds out there was nothing to fear and runs to go  back up the slide again.  A tween might be  afraid to  move into a middle  school  from the safety of his elementary or primary school.  A teen might be worried or fearful about dating.  A young mom might be afraid something will happen to her new baby.  A grandmother has fears about her grandchildren.  It's natural to have these  fears because we live in a sin filled world.  Worry and Fear are often companions and walk arm and arm, but we don't have walk with them.

This Inn that we now abide in is filled with all kinds of evil ready to snare us and rob us of what we have in Christ.  How to overcome the fear and worries?  Scripture.  Feed on the Word.  When we fear,  we flee to  cross, and repent, and then feed on the word until those fears and worries leave us.

I had to do this today.  My fear?  It's stupid, but I'll share it.  I get comfortable in my life, and don't like to mix it up.  I have my routine, and my routine and I are quite fine, thank you.  So going on a trip for three weeks filled  me with worry.  What will happen to my cats?  What will happen to my house?  I won't be able to practice violin, because I can't take it with me... On and on it went.  Then the Holy  Spirit showed me what a fool I was. I repented, and and turned to Romans.  Fear and Worry fled  away.  Let my adventure begin, and my what a time I  will have with my dear family for three short weeks.

Jesus will never leave us nor forsake us. What is there to fear, even in this Inn?

Romans 8:39 "Nor  height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus."

The Patience of Job

My husband has the patience of Job; and  when it comes to me,  I think I require a lot of patience.  Yesterday, when I went to work on my quilt, I discovered the sewing machine did not work. When I plugged in the foot pedal cord to my Bernina, it just would not move the machine.  I had some trouble with this in the past, but if I jiggled the cord, it would usually go.  I worked at for about five minutes, and then I got my husband.  He can fix anything!  He came into the room, and he tried, and nothing happened, so he said, "Let's just take it the Bernina store and get it fixed."   So, off we went with foot pedal and book about my particular Bernina machine in tow.  We live in the country and everything is at least 30 or more minutes away from us.  We arrive at the store and the gal plugs my foot pedal into one of the machines there, and it worked perfectly.  I felt pretty silly, but my husband thought that meant the machine its...

Never Surrender to Doubt: Keep Praying

                  Recently, some friends of mine have been going through a time of tremendous trials.  One of them asked me in tears, "Is God listening?  I've called out to Him so many times for answers and I am waiting for clarity, but nothing is clear. "  I had no ready answers.  When my friend called me, I just returned  to another friend's home after the funeral of her mother.  I had  come from a service where the message was about victory and hope, and yet I was at a loss for words for the tears coming forth from this person.  I simply said, "God knows what you and I do not.  We have to trust."  I had my own doubts, but how could I share that?  What comfort can be found in the words, "I don't know?"  Yet God does know.  How could I tell my friend that I too had called out for help, and didn't feel I had clarity?            This morning the Lo...

An Addendum to Yesterday's Post

                                      Dear Reader, There is one book that I forgot to add yesterday.  If you enjoy history, then you will enjoy Silent Night by Stanley Weintraub.  It is the true account of one Christmas Eve during World War I when the soldiers on both sides took a holiday.  They stopped fighting and had a truce.
