Be Still and Know that I am God
We can read Exodus and count the number of complaints and think, how did the Lord put up with such a complaining people, didn't they understand that the Lord would fight for them? Yet how often are we in situations where we think we have no way out. Maybe bills are piling up and no wage increases come. The children are sick yet again and the insurance has high deductibles. It might be we are simply tired of doing the same thing over and over again and feel what is the point? All those things have happened to me at some point, and like the children of Israel, I did my share of complaining, but when I just was still before the Lord and waited for Him, He gave me my way out. No, I didn't suddenly find money on the ground to pay bills, but the Lord gave me 3 violin students. Over time He increased those students. My children still had to go the doctor, but doctors arranged for payment plans. Long ago, when I was young and my first child had been in the hospital during his first year of life than he had been out of it. Yet, the doctor, who had eleven children of his own, let me make bread for his family to pay off his bill, and the hospital cut the bill in half.
Being still says, Lord, I don't know how you're going to work this out, but I trust you to do it. You've given us so many examples in the Bible where you've done that for others. You are the same yesterday, today, and forever, so I am going to trust you in this situation. Is it easy? Absolutely not, but when I have stopped fighting the Lord, I find the greatest peace.
